Now that's an album I was hoping would get its physical release for quite some time! Blue marks a first notable appearance for Vince Dolphin, getting noticed by legendary (?) net-label Dream Catalogue in 2014 -who were then at the peak of relevancy (RIP). In this first main effort, everything great about Vince Dolphin's music is already there to be found: a chill, dancey aquatic vibe, taking you with few effort along its clear underwater melodic beats. You can see the bubbles popping and the fishes smiling and the afterparty closing in while listening to Blue, a record that was inevitably associated with vaporwave due to its original release context. But since then, Vince Dolphin's output has grown consistent and personal, making for an already solid discography: Ocean Songs (2015) followed by Liquid (2018) were respectively published in tape and vinyl formats by exemplary french label ABrecords; and last year's Forever Blue, released through Dolphin's own label OCEAAN RECORDS, gets the dual release treatment on TAKENINAKE. Now's the time to take a refreshing dive! Enjoy this hot summer...
