about

Sometime around 2011 on Youtube. Browsing through indie music, I mysteriously stumble upon the tripped-out video for "Beats Game World" by FLOATTT. Immediately I fall in love with the lofi, heady production for this fun-as-hell Beastie Boysish hip-hop track, with its wacky japanese bars and quirky visuals (directed by Hideyuki Katsumata). (LINK: www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Ar- )
In the early 2010's, an era of music blogs, obscure digging/mediafire-sharing blogspots and angsty tumblrs, discovering anything unknown or hidden also meant being able to search anywhere for information and mp3s. And I REALLY wanted to know who FLOATTT were! But clearly the other 3 people who liked their facebook page at the time weren't as excited as I was and info on the band or what they were doing was scarce...
I still managed to grab me a copy of their album Jap's Psychedelic Break Beats (published a couple years before) and found to my delight that the promising intro single "Beats Game World" was indeed followed up by nine other enjoyable joints full of funny 90s electronic sounds -in what is almost a history course on the underground sounds of that era. Unexpectedly varied and chilled-vibed through and through, Jap's Psychedelic Break Beats draws without pretention from dub, house, hip-hop, or acid avoiding the pastiche and drawing a very heartfelt picture, like a project that took its time to grow in the heads of its creators to be this sincere love letter to a whole sonic decade.
I am very happy to bring you this album today. We are able to provide distribution for the original 2009 CD self-release and our very own cassette version! Please enjoy this unique and overlooked jap-indie album from the tail-end of our first decade.
